Site-Based Learning & Development Manager

About the role

The Africa & Middle East Region of Barrick is looking for a senior Learning & Development (L&D) leader to drive site‑based training, competency assurance and workforce development. Reporting to the General Manager as a member of the site HOD team, the role translates regional L&D strategy into actionable plans that support safety, operational readiness and local talent growth.

Key responsibilities

• Translate the AME L&D strategy into an annual site plan and implement the standard L&D structure, governance and service model.
• Design and deliver safety‑critical training, moving beyond attendance to assessment, field verification and supervisor sign‑off.
• Conduct training needs analysis with Mining, Processing, Engineering, Maintenance, Safety, HR and support functions; maintain the learning calendar and role‑based development pathways.
• Lead, coach and develop the site L&D team, ensuring trainer and assessor capability and quality of facilitation.
• Implement induction, onboarding and contractor readiness programs, maintaining risk‑based records in Damstra.
• Maintain accurate training records, certifications, licences and competence evidence; provide dashboards on compliance and critical role coverage.
• Ensure compliance with Barrick standards, legal training requirements and regulatory obligations; keep audit‑ready evidence.
• Partner with HR on localisation, succession planning and skills transfer for critical roles.

Required profile

• Senior L&D professional with experience in a mining or industrial environment.
• Proven ability to lead a site‑based L&D function and influence senior leadership.
• Strong understanding of safety‑critical training, competency frameworks and regulatory compliance.
• Experience managing a team of trainers and assessors.
• Ability to work closely with cross‑functional partners (operations, HR, safety, engineering).
