HSE Officer – Health, Safety & Environment

About the role

The HSE Officer will implement, monitor and maintain Health, Safety and Environmental systems at a project site in Gabon. Reporting to the HSE Manager and Project Manager, the role ensures compliance with company standards and local regulations while fostering a proactive safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce company HSE policies, procedures and standards on site.
• Ensure compliance with local occupational health, safety and environmental regulations.
• Develop and monitor site‑specific HSE Management Plans.
• Conduct routine site inspections, risk assessments and hazard identification.
• Lead toolbox talks, Take‑5 assessments, JSEAs/JHAs, pre‑start inspections and SPOT observations.
• Report, record and investigate incidents, accidents and near‑misses; support root‑cause analysis and track corrective actions.
• Deliver HSE inductions, safety training and coaching for supervisors and workers.
• Assist with emergency response planning, drills and equipment readiness.
• Support internal and external audits (ISO 45001, ISO 14001) and maintain accurate HSE documentation.
• Participate in HSE meetings, health & safety committees and liaise with clients on HSE standards.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of experience in a similar HSE role.
• Experience on a mine site and with exploration drill rigs.
• Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Solid understanding of risk assessment processes, safe work procedures and incident investigation.
