Head of Office – UN Women, Bamako (TA P4)

About the role

The Head of Office will lead UN Women’s Country Office in Bamako on an interim basis, reporting to the UN Women West and Central Africa Regional Director. The role ensures continuity of programme delivery, strategic planning and representation within the UN Country Team in a complex crisis context.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the participatory drafting of the Mali Country Strategic Note 2027‑2031 in consultation with government, civil society, donors and UN partners.
• Coordinate internal review, validation and clearance processes with the Regional Office to meet corporate deadlines.
• Provide regular updates on progress, risks and decisions to the Regional Director.
• Provide day‑to‑day leadership to the Country Office team, ensuring continuity of programme delivery, operations and duty of care.
• Finalize and implement the annual work plan and budget in line with national transition, development, humanitarian and peacebuilding priorities.
• Represent UN Women in the UN Country Team, engaging with the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator as delegated.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior management within the UN system or comparable international organization.
• Proven ability to lead strategic planning and programme implementation in fragile or crisis‑affected contexts.
• Strong knowledge of gender equality, women’s empowerment, and related international frameworks (SDGs, CEDAW, WPS agenda).
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with governments, donors, civil society and UN partners.
• Ability to ensure operational continuity and duty of care for staff in a high‑risk environment.
