Drilling and Blasting Technician (Team Leader) – Dolerite Quarry

About the role

Societe Nationale Builder is looking for a Drilling and Blasting Technician for a dolerite quarry, working remotely. The role leads a team of nine skilled professionals who carry out precise drilling and blasting operations essential to the quarry's production. The position requires extensive experience in managing drilling activities, designing quarry blasts and handling explosives safely and efficiently, while ensuring compliance with industry regulations and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of nine drilling and blasting professionals.
• Plan, design and implement blast hole drilling and blasting patterns for dolerite extraction, optimising performance and minimising risks.
• Operate and oversee drill rig equipment to achieve precise blast hole placement and depth specifications.
• Manage the handling, storage and transportation of explosives in line with regulatory and safety standards.
• Inspect and monitor drilling and blasting activities regularly to ensure safety and efficiency.
• Develop and enforce quarry safety procedures and promote a safety culture among team members.
• Coordinate with engineering, geological and environmental teams so blasting aligns with project needs and regulations.
• Train team members on safe drilling and blasting techniques and proper equipment use.
• Maintain records of blasting activities, safety measures and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and stay up to date with drilling and blasting technology.
• Communicate clearly with the team and management about operational status and challenges.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in drilling management, blast design and explosive handling.
• Strong English communication skills to coordinate with the team and report to management.
