About the role
The Humanitarian Affairs Officer – Reporting will work within OCHA's Crisis Response Division in Bamako, Mali. Reporting to the Chief of Coordination Unit and under the supervision of the Deputy Head of Office, the incumbent will support OCHA’s mission to coordinate effective humanitarian action and provide timely information on emergencies.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor, analyse and report on humanitarian developments, disaster relief and emergency situations in the assigned area.
- Organise and prepare studies on humanitarian and emergency relief issues, including follow‑up work and inter‑agency technical review meetings.
- Participate in large‑scale assessments and missions, coordinating international assistance and drafting situation reports for the international community.
- Partner with other humanitarian agencies to plan, evaluate and incorporate lessons learned, gender considerations and policy guidelines into programmes.
- Manage or assist in the production of appeals for international assistance and ensure proper use of donor contributions channeled through OCHA.
- Establish and maintain contacts with government officials, UN agencies, NGOs, diplomatic missions and media.
- Provide technical assistance and support to field missions, including field trips to review country coordination mechanisms.
- Contribute to the preparation of written reports, background papers, policy guidelines and briefings.
Required profile
- Experience in monitoring and reporting on humanitarian or emergency situations.
- Proven ability to organise and prepare studies and technical review meetings.
- Experience participating in disaster assessments and coordinating international humanitarian assistance.
- Knowledge of gender‑related considerations in humanitarian programmes.
- Ability to manage appeals and oversee donor contribution utilisation.
- Strong networking skills with government, UN bodies, NGOs and media.
