HSE Manager – Mining Project

About the role

The Project HSE Manager will lead Health, Safety and Environmental activities across a mining project site, ensuring compliance with legislation, DRA specifications and fostering a strong safety culture.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, DRA HSE specifications and relevant international legislation.
• Conduct regular audits of HSE systems, contractor performance and DRA personnel, and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring, incident investigations and quality management of HSE processes.
• Develop and maintain risk management procedures, behavioural observations and reporting of leading/lagging indicators.
• Provide HSE guidance to construction teams, contractors and suppliers, and champion a proactive safety culture.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years of project‑related HSE experience, including at least 5 years in an HSE management role.
• Experience managing HSE in underground mining and contractor environments (EPCM/EPC).
• Strong leadership, decision‑making and communication skills, able to work under pressure.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and alignment with DRA core values.

Required skills

• SAMTRAC or equivalent qualification.
• Incident Investigation Training Certificate.
• Risk Management Training Certificate.
• Legal Liability Certificate.
• Underground Blasting Ticket (Competency A & B).
• Shift Supervisor / Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency (advantageous).
• National Diploma in Safety Management (advantageous).
• SACPCMP registration or other relevant HSE professional memberships (advantageous).
