Budget Analyst – International NGO (Mali)

About the role

The Budget Analyst will support CIVIC’s mission to protect civilians in conflict zones by preparing budget versus actual reports, monitoring spending, and delivering insightful financial analyses. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Budget & Analysis, this role is essential for evaluating funding proposals, ensuring compliance with regulations, and optimizing resource allocation across projects in Mali.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate budget proposals and funding requests in collaboration with project managers.
• Prepare, update, and review budget templates and trackers to monitor program spending.
• Conduct cost‑benefit analyses and forecast financial needs by country and organization‑wide.
• Monitor actual spending against budget, ensuring adherence to legal regulations.
• Assess the impact of foreign currency fluctuations on proposals and expenditures.
• Analyze time‑keeping practices to ensure accurate and timely submissions.
• Prepare periodic and special financial reports and identify spending trends.
• Suggest improvements to increase profitability and reduce expenses.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in budgeting or finance, preferably with international NGOs.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with advanced problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication in English and French.
• Valid authorization to work in Mali without the need for visa sponsorship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Experience using accounting software; knowledge of Sage Intacct is preferred.
