Cost Accountant

About the role

A large food manufacturing company in Mali, West Africa, is looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant. The role covers calculating and analysing costs, monitoring cost variations against budget, and supporting budgeting, profitability analysis and business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Calculate, monitor and analyse production, operational and other business costs.
• Analyse cost as a percentage of revenue to assess profitability and find cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitor cost variations and investigate differences between actual and budgeted costs.
• Prepare cost reports and help analyse financial performance and profit margins.
• Track direct and indirect costs such as materials, labour and overheads.
• Assist in preparing budgets, forecasts and cost estimates.
• Analyse cost trends and highlight areas for improvement.
• Maintain accurate cost records and ensure proper allocation of expenses.
• Coordinate with accounting, finance and operations teams to collect and validate cost data.
• Support month-end closing and the preparation of financial reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in cost accounting or a similar role.
• Practical experience in costing, cost analysis and cost control.
• Good knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting and expense allocation.
• Proficiency in English; French is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of cost as a percentage of revenue and profitability analysis.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems or ERP software.
