Senior Legal Counsel – Mali

About the role

Wave is building a cashless Africa and needs a senior legal professional to safeguard its growth. As a Senior Legal Counsel based in Mali, you will support the legal team, advise operational units and ensure compliance with local laws and regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts across all business areas, including core product agreements.
• Implement and maintain contracting processes, policies, electronic signature tools and document archiving.
• Develop and manage legal policies, data‑privacy frameworks and regulatory licensing advice.
• Handle litigation matters, from pre‑litigation strategy through mediation, arbitration and court proceedings.
• Provide employment law support on contracts, disciplinary actions and terminations.
• Oversee company secretarial duties and coordinate with the Head of Regulatory Affairs.
• Identify legal risks, work with risk and controls teams to implement mitigations.
• Manage relationships with external law firms and supervise legal service delivery.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Law (or equivalent) and 5–7 years of corporate or regulatory legal experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
• Proven experience in corporate governance, including board and shareholder meeting preparation.
• Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements for commercial activities.
• Work authorization in Mali.
