Senior Legal Counsel – FinTech

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to join Wave’s legal team supporting operations in Mali. You will provide practical, business‑oriented legal advice and help shape the company’s legal strategy as we scale our cashless financial services across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts across all business areas, ensuring alignment with company objectives and compliance with local laws.
• Lead high‑value and complex contract negotiations, providing strategic input to achieve balanced agreements.
• Implement and improve contracting processes, including policy development, contract management systems, electronic signature tools and document archiving.
• Develop and update group legal policies such as contract and data‑privacy policies.
• Design and manage procedures for handling legal claims and disputes, including pre‑litigation strategy, mediation, arbitration and litigation follow‑up.
• Provide legal support on employment matters, including contracts, disciplinary procedures and terminations.
• Oversee company secretarial duties in coordination with regulatory affairs.
• Collaborate with risk management to identify and mitigate legal risks.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience as a corporate or commercial lawyer, preferably in a fast‑growing technology or fintech environment.
• Strong knowledge of Malian commercial law, contract law, employment law and dispute resolution.
• Proven ability to work independently and partner with operational teams to deliver pragmatic legal solutions.
• Excellent communication skills in English and French.
