Country Representative (P5) – UN Women, Bamako

About the role

The Country Representative leads UN Women’s country office in Mali, steering the implementation of gender‑equality programmes across humanitarian, development and peace‑building domains. Reporting to the West and Central Africa Regional Director, the role also serves as a UN Country Team member, collaborating with the Resident Coordinator on UN‑wide priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall management of the Mali Country Office portfolio.
• Translate UN Women’s Strategic Plan into concrete programmes aligned with national and regional priorities.
• Develop, implement and monitor projects on women’s leadership, gender‑responsive governance, economic empowerment, and prevention of violence.
• Build and sustain partnerships with government agencies, UN system partners, civil‑society organisations, women’s groups and donors.
• Represent UN Women in UNCT meetings, ensuring coordination with the Resident Coordinator and reporting on contributions to the Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework.
• Oversee resource mobilisation, visibility, and compliance with UN Women and UN system policies.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in international development, humanitarian assistance or peace‑building, preferably within the UN system.
• Proven track record of leading multi‑stakeholder programmes on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
• Strong understanding of the UN Women Strategic Plan, SDG agenda, CEDAW, and the Women, Peace and Security framework.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, insecure environments and to manage matrix reporting structures.
