Automation Engineer

About the role

Sandvik is seeking a proactive Automation Engineer to provide technical support for sales areas, mine sites and remote locations, and to participate in the commissioning of automation projects. The role involves systematic failure analysis, cost‑efficiency initiatives and delivering training to internal and external customers.

Key responsibilities

• Provide OEM product support and establish effective management systems for customers.
• Manage cost budgets, initiate cost‑reduction measures and ensure environmentally safe practices.
• Develop and administer maintenance practices to guarantee fleet availability and reliability.
• Take responsibility for Environment, Health & Safety performance and management.
• Investigate warranty claims, enhance customer satisfaction and feed back to factories.
• Deliver technical training to the service network on operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent trade background.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role with automation operations in surface and underground mining.
• Strong business sense, EHS focus and excellent communication and people‑management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, handle emergency breakdowns and travel within West Africa.

Required skills

• Automation systems knowledge and commissioning experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office applications, especially spreadsheets.
• Experience with SAP or other ERP systems.
• Technical troubleshooting and failure analysis capabilities.
