Associate Project Officer – Human Trafficking & Migrant Smuggling

About the role

The Associate Project Officer will support UNODC’s fight against human trafficking and migrant smuggling across West and Central Africa. Based in Bamako, the role reports to the Programme Coordinator and works closely with regional and national partners.

Key responsibilities

• Promote UNODC initiatives on trafficking and smuggling within the framework of relevant UN protocols.
• Support the implementation of UNODC’s Regional Strategy and mobilise resources in collaboration with partners.
• Act as the focal point for the PROMIS project in Mali, overseeing development, implementation and evaluation.
• Monitor project progress, identify issues and propose corrective actions.
• Coordinate with national authorities, civil society and international organisations to track follow‑up actions.
• Plan and facilitate workshops, contribute to drafting legislation, action plans and standard operating procedures.
• Provide technical and logistical support for project activities, including data collection and background research.
• Conduct desk research and field assessments on trafficking and smuggling trends.
• Design, update and deliver standardized training materials.

Required profile

• Works under direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator and in coordination with regional project leads.
• Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
