Advocacy Specialist – Fixed Term (Mogadishu, Somalia)

About the role

The Advocacy Specialist will provide strategic leadership for country‑level advocacy in Somalia, helping UNICEF shape policy, mobilise resources and raise public awareness on child rights. This fixed‑term position is based in Mogadishu and works closely with programme teams, government partners and civil society.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of advocacy strategies that advance UNICEF’s priorities for children in Somalia.
• Serve as the advocacy focal point within the Communication section, coordinating with programme sections and external partners.
• Prepare advocacy products, strategic messaging, media engagements and digital communication outputs, including social media content.
• Manage and coordinate communication and advocacy grants and partnerships linked to priority programmes.
• Monitor, evaluate and report on the impact of advocacy initiatives, supporting national advocacy plans.

Required profile

• Proven experience in advocacy, public communication or related fields, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong understanding of child rights and the ability to engage government, partners and communities.
• Excellent strategic thinking, coordination and monitoring skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across programme and communication teams.
